DEADLY HESITIATION

AFTER FERGUSON, WE HAVE ALL SEEN OFFICERS NOT USING DEADLY FORCE…EVEN WHEN THE SITUATION JUSTIFIED OR MORE IMPORTANTLY, DEMANDED THE USE OF SUCH FORCE. SOME OFFICERS ARE MORE OFTEN NOT USING THEIR WEAPON(S) FOR FEAR OF BEING LABELED “FASCIST” OR “RACIEST.” SOME ARE HESITANT AND ARE MORE FEARFUL OF BECOMING THE NEXT YOUTUBE SENSATION, OR A LAWSUIT. MANY THINGS RUN THROUGH AN OFFICERS MIND AT A TIME LIKE THIS. WHO CAN BLAME THEM? IN TODAY’S ANTI-COP ATMOSPHERE.

THE PRACTICE OF DEADLY HESITATION HAS BECOME MORE PREVALENT THAT AT ANY TIME. THIS IS GOING TO COST THE LIVES OF OFFICERS IN THE FUTURE.

AN EXAMPLE OF THIS OCCURRED LAST APRIL WHERE AN OHIO POLICE OFFICER BACKPEDALED AWAY FROM A SUBJECT. IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT THE PERSON IN THE OFFICERS SIGHTS HAD JUST MURDERED HIS GIRLFRIEND. ADDITIONALLY, HE WAS WANTED FOR A HOMICIDE IN KENTUCKY. THE OFFICER STATED THAT HE WANTED TO BE ABSOLUTELY SURE BEFORE HE USED DEADLY FORCE.

BY GIVING UP HIS POSITION BEHIND HIS SQUAD CAR AND FALLING TO THE GROUND HE ENDANGERED, NOT ONLY HIMSELF, BUT THE PUBLIC. HAD THE OFFENDER KILLED HIM AND ESCAPED IN THE POLICE CAR EQUIPPED WITH A SHOTGUN, THE PUBLIC WOULD BE OUTRAGED AND QUESTION WHY THE OFFICER DIDN’T SHOOT. ANYTHING TO GENERATE A GOOD, JUICY STORY ABOUT A COP MAKING A SPLIT-SECOND DECISION. ALL IN ORDER TO SELL PAPERS OR TAKE UP TV TIME.

ANOTHER INCIDENT OCCURRED IN BIRMINGHAM. IN THIS INSTANCE THE OFFICER WAS PISTOL WHIPPED WITH HIS OWN GUN. HE LATER TOLD A REPORTER HE DIDN’T WANT TO BE IN THE MEDIA. WELL, HE WAS IN THE MEDIA ANYWAY…AND MAY VERY WELL HAVE BEEN IN BECAUSE HE WAS IN THE MORGUE. THANKFULLY, THIS WAS NOT THE CASE WITH THESE TWO INCIDENTS.

DEADLY HESITATION..IS IT A PROCEDURE TO FOLLOW IN THE FUTURE…LET’S HOPE NOT.

DE-POLICING

IN MOST, IF NOT ALL CITIES, THE PRACTICE OF PROACTIVE POLICING IS FADING FAST. STOP AND FRISK IS A TERM THAT I FEAR MAY BE LOST TO THE NEXT GENERATION OF POLICE OFFICERS. THIS PRACTICE HAS A LONG STANDING AND UPHELD ROOT IN THIS CONSTITUTIONALLY GROUNDED ACTIVITY. (TERRY vs OHIO)

MANY OFFICERS TODAY ARE RELUCTANT TO USE THIS TACTIC. BY DIRECTION OR BY THEIR OWN VOLITION AND ADMISSION HAVE DECLARED AN END TO APPROACHING AND CONFRONTING A SUSPECT. THEY DON’T WANT TO BE THE NEXT FACEBOOK “VIRAL” SENSATION. IN REALITY, WHO COULD BLAME THEM.

DE-POLICING HAS TAKEN HOLD OF POLICE OPERATIONS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. ADMINISTRATORS ARE DIRECTING OFFICERS NOT TO STOP VEHICLES FOR CERTAIN TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THESE TYPE OF STOPS CAN AND SOMETIMES DO, LEAD TO THE ARREST OF VIOLENT CRIMINALS. CASE IN POINT…TIMOTHY MCVEY, YOU KNOW, THE OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBER, STOPPED FOR NO LICENSE PLATE AFTER THE BOMBING. THIS STOP REVEALED MCVEY TO HAVE A CONCEALED WEAPON. UPON THE AGENCIES WORKING THE BOMBING AND PUTTING TOGETHER THE PIECES THEY KNEW RIGHT WHERE TO FIND THE CULPRIT…IN THE SLAMMER. THANKS TO AN ALERT OKLAHOMA STATE TROOPER DOING HIS JOB.

EVEN THE NYPD, PERHAPS THE MOST RESPECTED LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY IN THE WORLD, HAS BEEN GIVEN NEW MARCHING ORDERS. THE MAYOR, WHO HAD TO TELL HIS CHILDREN HOW TO ACT WHEN CONFRONTED BY POLICE, HAS HALTED THE STOP AND FRISK PRACTICE.

WILL CRIME RATES SPIKE? WILL THE CRIMINAL ELEMENT RULE THE METROPOLITAN AREAS? WILL BODIES PILE UP AS THEY HAVE IN BALTIMORE? ONLY TIME WILL TELL. LET US HOPE THAT A REASONABLE COMMON GROUND CAN BE FOUND AND THOSE WE TASK WITH THE BURDEN OF ENFORCING THE LAW OF THE LAND CAN FAITHFULLY AND JUDICIOUSLY PERFORM THOSE DUTIES.

UPON CHECKING CURRENT POLICE TRENDS VIA THE NON-BIASED MEDIA I SEE WHERE DE-POLICING AND HESITATION BY OFFICERS IN A SHOOT/DON’T SHOOT SITUATION ARE ONCE AGAIN IN THE FOREFRONT. OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, IN IT’S INFINITE WISDOM, IS TAKING BACK THE MILITARY EQUIPMENT GIVEN TO POLICE DEPARTMENTS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. IT’S CALLED THE 1033 PROGRAM. WHEN IMPLEMENTED THE CATCH PHRASE OF 10-33, KNOWN TO ALL WHO USE THE 10 CODE AS EMERGENCY. THE PLAN CALLED FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF SURPLUS MILITARY EQUIPMENT, THAT MAY BE OF SOME USE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES. THESE INCLUDED, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO ARMORED VEHICLES. OFFICERS ASSIGNED TO TACTICAL UNITS USE THESE ITEMS FREQUENTLY. NOT ONLY FOR THEIR PROTECTION BUT FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

NOW OUR GOVERNMENT WANT THEIR TOYS BACK. TOYS TO THEM PERHAPS BUT MISSION CRITICAL EQUIPMENT TO LAW ENFORCEMENT.

I RECALL THE APPREHENSION OF THE DESPICABLE SAN BERNADINO SHOOTERS AND THE ENSUING GUNFIGHT. YA KNOW WHAT…THAT SURPLUS MILITARY EQUIPMENT, IN THIS CASE ARMORED VEHICLES, WERE USED IN THE TERMINATION OF THAT VERY REAL AND, HAD IT NOT BEEN STOPPED, CONTINUING THREAT. INFORMATION DEVELOPED DURING THE POST INCIDENT PHASE REVEALED THEY WERE ON THEIR WAY TO ANOTHER LOCATION. THE INTENT BEING TO KILL MORE GOOD CITIZENS. OH, WAIT. THE LOCATION THEY WERE ENROUTE TO WAS/IS A GUN FREE ZONE.

THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT HAS GIVEN AGENCIES APRIL 1ST TO GET THIS STUFF TURNED IN. REMEMBER, IT’S OUR TAX DOLLARS TO SO THE NEXT TIME SOMEONE IS BARRICADED, HAS SHOT OR KILLED SEVERAL VICTIMS AND THE DEPARTMENT IS IN DIRE NEED OF AN ARMORED VEHICLE…WHO YA GONNA CALL…GHOST BUSTERS? HOW ‘BOUT SOME FEED BACK. ANY ISSUES YOU WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS??

POLICE OFFICER QUALIFICATIONS

WELL, THEY’RE AT IT AGAIN. IN AN ATTEMPT TO DIVERT ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE RECENT POLICE SHOOTINGS AND CONFRONTATION COPS EXPERIENCE, THE POLITICAL CLASS IS ATTEMPTING TO PUT THE INCIDENTS DIRECTLY ON THE BACKS OF POLICE OFFICERS. THAT’S RIGHT, THE COPS ON THE STREET. THE ONES THAT ANSWER THE CALLS FROM THOSE IN NEED. IT MAY BE FROM AN ELDERLY AND ALONE PERSON WHOSE ‘FRIDGE ISN’T WORKING (I’VE HANDLED CALLS LIKE THIS.) MAYBE IT’S SOMETHING A LITTLE MORE SEVERE…LIKE A DECAPITATED INFANT…AND YES, I HANDLED THOSE CALLS TOO.

WITH SOMEWHERE IN THE VICINITY OF ONE MILLION COPS IN THE UNITED STATES AND GOD ONLY KNOWS HOW MANY CALLS FOR SERVICE ARE HANDLED EVERY DAY THERE WILL BE INSTANCES WHERE A POLICE OFFICER WILL BE REQUIRED TO USE SOME FORM OF FORCE. THIS COULD BE VERBAL COMMANDS (YES, MANY DEPARTMENTS CONSIDER THIS A USE OF FORCE.) MAYBE THE SITUATION DEMANDS A STRONGER USE OF FORCE. PEPPER SPRAY, A TASER OR, AS A LAST RESORT, A FIREARM.

AN OFFICER HAS A FRACTION OF A SECOND, IN INTENSE SITUATIONS, TO MAKE THAT DECISION.

ENTER NOW THE POLITICIANS AND POLICY WONKS FROM EVERY CORNER OF THE COUNTRY. OFFERING “EXPERT OPINION”…A LOT OF THESE COME FROM THE CLOISTERED WORLD OF ACADEMIA. MANY DEMAND BETTER TRAINED AND EDUCATED COPS. CLAIMING THAT COPS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK. ALSO ADVISING THAT NO PSYC EXAM OR POLYGRAPH IS REQUIRED.

IT WOULD DO THESE OPINIONATED JERKS A WORLD OF GOOD TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE STATES “POLICE OFFICER STANDARDS AND TRAINING” BUREAUS WITHIN THEIR OWN STATES BUREAUCRACY. THIS DEPARTMENT IS TASKED WITH THE OVER SITE AND MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR LICENSED POLICE OFFICERS IN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE STATE. I RECENTLY SAW A “TALKING HEAD” LAMENTING THE POOR QUALITY OF POLICE OFFICERS IN OHIO. STATING, INCORRECTLY, THAT OFFICERS DID NOT NEED A HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION. PUZZLED, I LOOKED AT THE REQUIREMENTS FOR POLICE OFFICERS IN A NUMBER OF CITIES IN OHIO. LARGE AND SMALL. UNLESS I MISSED SOMETHING THEY ALL REQUIRE A HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION MANY REQUIRING A COLLEGE DEGREE. ADDITIONALLY, THEY REQUIRE A COMPREHENSIVE BACKGROUND REVIEW INCLUDING A POLYGRAPH EXAM AND A PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAM. HUMMM…. WONDER JUST WHAT IN THE HELL THAT GOOF WAS TALKING ABOUT. MY GUESS IS THAT HE JUST WANTED SOME FACE TIME ON TV. LOOKS GOOD ON A CV.

MORE TRAINING FOR POLICE OFFICERS IS ALWAYS A PLUS. MAYBE DEPARTMENTS NEED TO REVIEW THEIR HIRING PRACTICES. MAYBE SOMEONE SHOULD TEACH OFFICERS HOW TO DEAL WITH AMPED UP PROTESTERS/RIOTERS AND THOSE WACKED OUT OF THEIR GOURD ON ANY NUMBER OF DRUGS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ON ALMOST ANY STREET CORNER. MAYBE THE PH.d WHO PONTIFICATED ABOUT UNTRAINED COPS COULD ADDRESS THAT..,.THEN AGAIN, MAYBE NOT.

OPTICS-WHAT KIND OF AN ANSWER IS THAT??

A FEW DAYS AGO A GOOF FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY TESTIFIED BEFORE A CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEE ABOUT THE USE, IN THIS CASE THE NON-USE OF FACEBOOK IN THE VETTING OF IMMIGRANTS/REFUGEES.

IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE PERSON TESTIFYING HAS A TITLE AS LONG AS YOUR ARM.

WHEN QUESTIONED AS TO WHY THE DHS AND THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE DID NOT USE THE SOCIAL NET WORKS LIKE FACEBOOK, TWITTER OR EVEN GOOGLE. NOW I THINK IT’S WELL KNOWN THAT THE SOCIAL MEDIA IS USED TO TELL FRIEND AND VIEWERS WHAT THEY HAD FOR DINNER, WHERE THEY WENT AND WHAT THEY DID. THE NETWORKS ARE SET UP TO ADD “FRIENDS” TO YOUR LIST OF FOLKS INTERESTED IN WHAT YOU ARE DOING OR WHAT YOU DID OR WHAT YOU ARE PLANNING TO DO. AS SUCH THESE ARE OPEN FORUMS FOR FRIEND AND ASSOCIATES TO INTERACT.

WHEN QUESTIONED AS TO WHY THESE INFORMATION SOURCES WERE NOT USED HE REPLIED THAT THE DEPARTMENT FEARED BACKLASH FROM PRIVACY AND CIVIL LIBERTIES GROUPS. ALTHOUGH THIS WAS NOT ILLEGAL THAT IT WOULD BE VIEWED NEGATIVELY IF IT WAS DISCLOSED QUESTIONED FURTHER HE SAID…(AND THIS IS TAKEN FROM THE OFFICIAL RECORD)..GET READY…” IT WAS PRIMARILY A QUESTION OF OPTICS.” WHAT??

I JUST CHECKED MY HANDY DICTIONARY AND THE DEFINITION OF “OPTICS” IS “THE BRANCH OF SCIENCE CONCERNED WITH VISION AND THE BEHAVIOR OF LIGHT.”

SO THE QUESTION REMAINS…WHY DIDN’T THE AGENCY CHARGED WITH THE PROTECTING OUR COUNTRY FROM THE LIKES OF THE SAN BERDO SHOOTERS USE THESE SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLS TO ATTEMPT TO UNCOVER THE MINDSET OF THESE DESPICABLE PEOPLE. “OPTICS,” THE COUNTRY AND TAXPAYERS DESERVE BETTER, MUCH BETTER!!

“HANDS UP, DON’T SHOOT”–ONE OF THIS YEARS BIGGEST LIES

The Washington Post recently came out with the annual list of the most outrageous lies of the year. guess which one came in first…that’s right, “hands up, don’t shoot.”

Well now isn’t that sweet. All the phony politicos in congress and elsewhere along with the newsies and the sports figures that promoted and ran with this totally false story have offered no apology or remorse. You and I really didn’t expect any now, did we? Of course not. these non-thinking dolts are like lemmings to the sea. Go along with what everybody…except FOX NEWS says.

FOX NEWS is the only outlet that pleaded for calm until the entire story is revealed. The were dismissed by almost everyone and especially cnn and msnbc. Wonder if they will ever admit they were wrong in their rush to judgement.
Probably not…how silly of me.

This issue is addressed in <strong”MICHAEL BROWN JR. DIDN’T HAVE TO DIE.” The headlong bolt by our president and attorney general did nothing to abate the refrain. Oh no. As a matter of fact they did everything to further this blatant falsehood.

By now everyone has turned their attention to other more pressing matters like (pick your issue to be outraged) and the bogus “Hand up, Don’t Shoot” has been all but forgotten. Not to be forgotten is former Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson, who became the target of slings and arrows when he shouldn’t have.

One can draw a comparison to the Baltimore 6. We need something to pull us out of this mess. Holding the media accountable is a good start.

BALTIMORE POLICE OFFICER WILLIAM PORTER-PARTIAL VICTORY

Baltimore police officer William Porter was handed a partial victory yesterday when the jury in his bullshit trial couldn’t reach a verdict. They couldn’t reach a verdict on any of the charges…even the most trivial.

This bodes well for the defense in that failure to reach a verdict on a “mickey mouse” charge like Misconduct in office means they damn sure couldn’t reach anything close to a unanimous decision on the more important charges. by more important I mean the ones that could potentially send him to the joint for an extended period of time.

The prosecutor, pandering to the “hoodrats” charged the six officers based on a shoddy and incompetent investigation into the demise of freddy. now it’s coming back to haunt her and the governance of the city.

If the six officers can weather this storm they will be well positioned to sue the city for all manner of wrongs. Let’s hope any settlement with these fine officers is many times greater than the 6.4 million given to gray’s family.

After all the officers have been through this is a ray of hope…a ray that will open to clear skies and a unicorn farting rainbows.

THIS SHOULD MAKE YOU FEEL ALL WARM AND FUZZY

We all know what happened in San Berdo. We have all been advised that they were radicalized at some point. Well, whoop de doo. Who cares how and when they were radicalized. They just were. I feel that some people who walk the face of this earth are just bad. Plain and simple. I also fear that if I know all about how they chose that path that knowledge will turn my heart black and cast a shadow upon my soul. I choose not to live like that. I’ll leave the speculation and supposition to those that feel it is necessary.

What I do feel is necessary is the ability to ferret out and identify these evil blobs of protozoa from entering our country. But we all can rest easy because some of the questions asked of someone entering, or attempting to enter our country, can be stopped cold in their track. Some of the questions are:

A. DO YOU SEEK TO ENGAGE IN TERRORIST ACTIVITIES WHILST IN THE US OR HAVE YOU EVER ENGAGED IN TERRORIST
ACTIVITIES?

B. ARE YOU A MEMBER OR REPRESENTATIVE OF A TERRORIST GROUP?

C. HAVE YOU OR DO YOU INTEND TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE OR OTHER SUPPORT TO TERRORIST GROUPS?

Boy, hard to put anything over on those state dept or homeland security folks. Yes these questions were asked of the San Berdo killers. Somehow these folks got through this rigorous interrogation.

If anyone had THOUGHT to check their Facebook pages they would have easily seen their hatred for our country and our way of life. Facebook. You know the thing everybody uses.

When I was a Detective I used EVERYTHING at my disposal to solve or prevent a crime. Wonder why the wizards at the various government agencies can’t do the same. Oh, but wait…then there would be no one to shuffle the blame off to. Oh yeah, and everybody could say they don’t have enough people, the computer system is outdated…blah, blah. Here’s a tip for ya…PRIORITIZE and check Facebook. Ah, I feel warm and fuzzy already.

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING–DON’T SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT MUSLIMS

After the horrific attack BY MUSLIMS, in San Berdo the pres took to the airwaves and rambled on about gun control and a bunch of other inconsequential baloney. What he did say was”…If you see something, say something.” OK, I think we can all agree with that. Something suspicious, unusual traffic at a location, statements and comments about attacks on Americans etc.

Well, here’s a new flash for ya Mr. pres and Ms. ag…the neighbor did suspect something was going on at the bomb factory where the two brave and cunning killers lived. Brave in that they went into a gun-free zone and slaughtered good, honest hard working citizens..,.American citizens. Citizens who are afforded the protection of our government. Yeah right!! The person who suspected illegal activity didn’t say anything because he didn’t want to be branded as a raciest, an anti-islamic or any current ism’s that dot our landscape.

OK, so the pres said if you see something say something. Got it. Then our ag, at some advocacy group or another says”…her greatest fear is the increasing rise of anti-muslim rhetoric.” She then vowed to prosecute anyone guilty of what she deemed violence-inspiring speech. WHAT?? Hey ms. ag, as much as we all dislike it hate speech is a constitutionally protected expression. On the other hand, what about the hate mongering and life threatening speech of the radical muslim groups. I tend to think that they are the ones who inspire, condone and advocate for death to America. I give you San Berdo as a most recent example.

At the conclusion of her talk to the muslim group she said”…What a perfect opportunity to change the way police operate in America.”

Another news flash for this thick headed ag…It was the police who chased down and stopped the threat of these two murderous people. People who were on their way to another killing zone. American police are doing just fine without your input and meddling ms. ag. Oh by the way, I bet that second target these evil people were headed to was/is a “gun free zone.” Gee, I feel safer already.

FLORIDA OFFICER OF THE YEAR

A number of snowbird returning to Melbourne ,FL to winter in the warm and welcoming sun and sea lifestyle discovered some, make that many, of their homes had been burglarized. As you might expect valuables in excess of $200,000 were purloined.

The Sheriffs Office immediately provided additional patrols and covert surveillance to catch the miscreants and bring them to the bar of justice.

One fine Florida evening, after being dropped off by his girlfriend and adorned in black clothing, he prowled the ‘hood looking for a score. Our hard luck anti-hero soon became reacquainted with deputies and took flight. Being of unsound mind and body he took refuge in a body of water know to area residents as barefoot lake. Not a good idea.

Also in residence at the lake is a gator…standard size as far as gators go. About 11 feet long and territorial to the MAX.

Whilst attempting to hide from the deputies the errant burglar came in contact with…that’s right, the resident gator. The rest is history. That’s right the gator apparently attacked the fugitive and the end result was a somewhat tasty meal and the demise of the violator.

Conservation officers later captured the gator and opened his stomach. Body parts consistent with the missing parts of num nuts, found earlier by Sheriff’s dive team members.

Moral of the story, well you can draw your own conclusions. The gator has been nominated for FL OFFICER OF THE YEAR. Get’s my vote…how ’bout you?
