THE HEAD OF THE CIVILIAN REVIEW BOARD, YOU KNOW THE HONEST AND LOYAL FOLKS THAT REVIEW COMPLAINTS BY CITIZENS AND TRY TO FIND A WAY TO JAM UP A COP NOW WANT A CHANGE IN THE COMPLAINT PROCESS. OK, SO NOW WHAT? LET’S TAKE A LOOK.
MAYOR EMANUEL’S CIVILIAN POLICE BOARD PRESIDENT, LORI (HELLO OUTER SPACE) LIGHTFOOT IS PUSHING FOR A MAJOR CHANGE IN THE COMPLAINT PROCEDURE. SHE WANTS TO REMOVE THE REQUIREMENT THAT THE COMPLAINANTS SIGN A STATEMENT THAT ATTESTS THE PERSON MAKING THE BEEF IS, IN FACT, TELLING THE TRUTH.
SHE FEELS THAT THE CURRENT METHOD OF MAKING A PERSON SAY THEY ARE TELLING THE TRUTH IS “TO BURDENSOME A REQUIREMENT AND THAT’S GOTTA CHANGE.”
I HOPE THE CPD POLICE UNION WILL NOT LET THIS HAPPEN. THEY HAVE INPUT INTO THE CONDITIONS THEY WORK UNDER. ASKING SOMEONE TO SAY THE STATEMENT THEY ARE MAKING AGAINST A CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER IS THE TRUTH ISN’T BURDENSOME…IT’S AN ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT THAT PROTECTS THE OFFICER.
MS. LIGHTFOOT SAYS “THIS IS A VERY BIG ISSUE THAT STANDS IN THE WAY OF LEGITIMACY RELATED TO THE INVESTIGATION OF CITIZENS COMPLAINTS.” WHAT?
PERHAPS THE REASON THERE ARE SO FEW COMPLAINTS IS BECAUSE THE CPD IS A PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION AND IS OPERATING AS REQUIRED UNDER THE LAW. BUT THEN, THAT WOULD MAKE TOO MUCH SENSE. GOD HELP US, PLEASE.

Like you, I too lived in Chicago for a number of years.
Like you, I was a cop.
Like you, I wrote about a guy named Brown…yours was Michael. mine was Norvelle…both were young black men and both shot dead on our streets…Michael because he was trying to kill a cop and Norvelle because he was one…the victim of a kid who “just wanted to kill a cop.”
Since the name “Ferguson” has now evolved into a legal term, our Department of Justice has set out to convert all existing, and future Police Officers into Crossing Guards and effectively destroyed the proud tradition of becoming a Law Enforcement Officer…and has left the vacancies of the depleted ranks of the nations police departments, wanting.
When the chants of “Hands up…don’t shoot” and “What do we want?…DEAD COPS” were permitted to continue as were looters in our nations’ streets, our elected officials effectively sealed the fate of the police officer…they are now just another on the street with a license to carry a gun…but then everyone has one now, so we are right back where we were in the 1850’s.
What’s different? The DOJ removed the stopper from the bottle, freeing the “Genie”. The damning concessions made by the “hug-a-thug” politicians have empowered and emboldened those bent on destroying our nation of laws and placed the power to judge others in the hands of that lady on the Chicago Civilian Review Board, who wants to get rid of “them silly requirements to ask folks to attest to the truth” when they accuse the LEO of violating his oath to serve and protect. Therein lies your answer to where that check-n-balance process is headed.
The next generation of elected leaders must now set aside all those promises they made to get in office and face the reality of getting that “Genie”…back in the bottle.
So now “Who do you call?”…the Chicago cast from Ghostbusters has disbanded and Mr. Obama is selling his digs up there and moving to a little cottage in a place called Palm Springs…next to the golf course where Rom’s gonna be the caddie.
It’s not a pretty picture…
