Yep, that’s right. The International Association of Chief’s of Police by their Deputy Executive Director and past president, Terrance Cunningham says,…”Let’s give the officers more tools, I think it’s the right thing to do.”
Let’s unwind this rascal. Cnningham is the former President of the IACP. Holds office in a number of police organizations throughout New England and is the Chief of the Wellesly, MA police department. Wonder when he has time to be the chief.
After much chin rubbing and hand wringing he and his study group came up with this. Rules do apply when firing warning shots. The fleeing goof must meet the same rules as deadly force. What?
One can visualize an officer on the stand in either a criminal or civil trial.
“Officer, isn’t it true your department has a “warning shot” clause in the general order?”
“Yes.”
“Then why did you shoot my client?”
Or the same set of questions when warning shots are fired and the bad guy escapes and kills an innocent bystander.
The street cops job is though enough, let’s don’t burden them with unnecessary rules involving deadly force. What are these people thinking??
STAY SAFE, BUCKLE UP AND WEAR YOUR VEST!!
