I recently read that in the past 10 days 3 officers were killed in one car accidents. According to ODMP there is a 45% jump in the number of officers killed in crashes when compared to last year.
You get the call, “Officer in Need of Aide” or some other type of “hot” call. Your heart pumps a bit faster. Adrenaline courses throughout your body. Your hands tighten around the steering wheel. You hit the lights and siren and your off. Off on another adventure. A chance to make a difference. A chance to do something other than write traffic tickets and take reports. This is what police work is all about.
En-route to the location of the call you computer is flashing updated information. Data that is necessary to take appropriate cautions and actions. You glance at the screen. Your steed, a powerful police interceptor, carries you and the car at excessive speed.
That sharp curve or other obstacle is on you before you can slow down or take corrective action and you, your car and your mission are SIG-7.
Drive to arrive alive. In order to be of assistance you first have to get there. In the decision making process take a step back and remember…”What’s Important Now!”
STAY SAFE, BUCKLE UP AND WEAR YOUR VEST!
