THE WAR ON COPS-WHAT WAR ON COPS?

A protesters yells at a Chicago Police officer at a bicycle barricade on Chicago's Magnificent Mile Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, in Chicago. The Christmas Eve Day protest calling for the resignation of Mayor Rahm Emanuel is the latest in a series of demonstrations in the city since the release last month of police video showing a white officer shoot a black teenager 16 times. I JUST READ A STATISTIC THAT SHOWS POLICE OFFICER DEATHS BY GUNFIRE ARE ON THE RISE.  21 POLICE OFFICERS HAVE BEEN KILLED BY GUNFIRE SO FAR THIS YEAR.  THAT’S A 31% INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR.  ADDITIONALLY, 112 POLICE OFFICERS HAVE BEEN SHOT AND SURVIVED SO FAR THIS YEAR.  THAT COMPARES TO 59 OFFICERS SHOT DURING THE SAME PERIOD IN 2015.  A 52% INCREASE.  I ALSO READ THAT THIS IS THE SAFEST YEAR FOR COPS IN DECADES.  THE NUMBER OF POLICE SHOOTINGS THIS YEAR FAR EXCEED ANY NUMBERS FOR SEVERAL DECADES.  MORE COPS ARE BEING SHOT AT A MUCH HIGHER LEVEL THAN EVER BEFORE.  YES VIRGINIA, THERE IS A WAR ON COPS.

ADDITIONALLY, THE aclu AND THE blm CREWS HAVE EMBOLDENED AND EMPOWERED THE CRIMINAL ELEMENT IN SOCIETY.  THE aclu, IN A RECENT REPORT ON THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT STOPS OF BLACKS MADE UP 72% OF ALL STOPS.  THIS SHOWED RACISM….NOT SO FAST.  BETWEEN 1991 AND 2011, THE LATEST YEARS FOR WHICH DATA IS AVAILABLE, BLACKS MADE UP BETWEEN 70 AND 82 PERCENT OF MURDER OFFENDERS.  IT APPEARS THAT INVESTIGATORY STOPS ARE IN LINE WITH MURDER RATES WHEN COMPARED BY RACE.

COPS ARE ROUTINELY CURSED AND SCREAMED AT DURING THE MOST ROUTINE ACTIVITIES.  A CHICAGO COP ON THE SOUTH SIDE RECENTLY TOLD HEATHER MACDONALD, “PEOPLE WANT TO FIGHT YOU.  FUCK THE POLICE.  WE DON’T HAVE TO LISTEN.”  RESISTING ARREST, A ONETIME RARITY, IS BECOMING MORE COMMON.

THESE ARE VIOLENT AND TROUBLED TIMES FOR AMERICAN POLICING AS WELL AS FOR THOSE CITIZENS OF OUR MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREAS.  THOSE THAT NEED AND APPRECIATE POLICE OFFICERS.

A SPECIAL TIP OF THE “COP’S PERSPECTIVE” HAT TO AMANDA HALL MILLER OF LAW ENFORCEMENT SUPPORT FOR MEDIA ACCOUNTABILITY (LESMA).  SHE HAD THE INFORMATION WHEN THE FBI DIDN’T.  TOO BUSY INVESTIGATING CLINTON I SUPPOSE.

COPS WILL SURVIVE, THEY MUST!!

STAY SAFE, BUCKLE UP AND WEAR YOUR VEST!!
